  1. After posting that I thought that Tyler was one of the few clean ones.......

    -----------
Olympic time trial champion Tyler Hamilton is at the center of a brewing
doping scandal at the Vuelta a España, according reports early Tuesday
    morning in Spain.

According to the Spanish news agency EFE, the UCI notified Phonak team
doctors on Monday that Hamilton reportedly revealed inconsistencies in blood
screenings. Details were sketchy as the news hit the Spanish wires early
Tuesday morning European time, but early reports indicated a type of blood
    transfusion banned under UCI rules.

According to EFE, Phonak team doctor Iñaki Arratibel confirmed the UCI
contacted him Monday. Phonak sport director Alvaro Pino was reached by
reporters late Monday night on the Vuelta's rest day.

"I heard about it for the first time tonight and I am surprised, because
this type of news you never expect," Pino told EFE. "For right now, I want
to focus on the Vuelta and I don't want to talk about this. I will speak at
    the appropriate time."

Pino told EFE he had spoken with Hamilton, who told Pino he's "calm and has
    a clear conscience."

Hamilton, 33, left the Vuelta last week after winning one stage. The New
Englander has never tested positive for banned substances or been
disciplined by the UCI during his 10-year professional career.

After crashing out of the 2004 Tour de France, Hamilton won the Olympic time
trial gold medal in August. At the Vuelta, Hamilton won a time trial in
stage 8 to become the first American to win stages in all three grand tours
but did not start the 13th stage after complaining of stomach problems.

"He had terrible stomach pains and just couldn't climb," Pino said last
week. "Yesterday (Thursday) he was flat on the climbs and just wasn't
himself. It must be a virus because it's not normal."

The Vuelta has been using a new sophisticated blood screening machine that
can detect blood transfusions, human growth hormones and synthetic
hemoglobin which were previously undetectable. The apparatus was also used
at the Tour de France and the Olympic Games in Athens.

Maybe he had an infection and his immune system response accounts for
the difference. If it's a new machine maybe it's a little to fine
tuned. I've certainly had to deal with things like that myself before,
where a little less precision caused a lot less static.

It's been buzzing around ever since Hamilton abandoned for really a trivial
    reason.

Davey has been sitting on it in case it was so much Hot Air, but all the
Spanish newsagencies have now picked it up.

Trivial maybe, but the same mysterious "stomach problem" seems to be making
the rounds at this years Vuelta causing numerous abandons.

  5. Hamilton asked a US Postal team doctor for doping years ago. These new
    reports should not surprise anyone.

and Santi Botero since his Worlds TT title.

  10. Presuming all the tests are valid, does Ekimov become repeat Oly Champion,
Julich get Silver, and Rogers get Bronze?

Well, there's an awful lot of talk around here about who's clean and
who's not. Some of it's probably true and some of it's probably false
but it's generally baseless either way until a positive test. We just
    don't know.

I'm just amazed that we're talking about Tyler Hamilton and nobody's
    mentioned Tugboat yet.

Michael Rogers must be getting sick of this.
