hi. I just bought my first roadbike last tuesday. Its a khs flite 500 with tiagra. I was completely clueless as to what to look for in a beginner bike, so i bought the one that felt the best. I've really been enjoying cycling and i ride 25-40 mi. a day. i'm averaging about 17mph regularly, except up some of our extremely steep hills in the area. Is that a decent speed to be averaging as a beginner?
I ask because i have a friend who began a week before me on a cannondale who completely blows me away. We are pretty comprable physically, so i cant figure out why im so much slower. any thoughts? should i even be worried about it at this point?
i wouldn't be at all worried about out it. Thats a very decent speed to be averaging especially in a hilly area.
It could be as simple as the backgrounds the two of you come from as to why he is beating you, he may simply have stronger legs.
The only way to fix this is to keep riding, your obviously doing plenty of riding and your enjoying it so you wont find it hard to keep going. I promise you if your are riding these distances with that average after only just starting riding that in no time at all you will improve out of sight
