  1. spent a loverly weekend in Hood River riding with Gab. We hit Post Canyon
in the rain... my first introduction to "greasy" mud. Ate good food, watch
chick flicks, and then the next day, since it was raining we drove east and
did the Deschutes wagon road. This is a rail trail... but you all know any
ride is better than no ride, especially if it's in the sun. The steel head
were running, and there were an awful lot of fishermen riding huffys in
their waders on the route. Ate more good food, watched more chick flicks.
Woke up to a view of Mt Adams poking it's head out.

Back up to post canyon which has dried out significantly. We went up to the
top to ride "Family Man" which is a really fun little stunt area that has
lots of novice skiniies, ramps and so on. We messed around there for a long
time. Gab is a real stud on some of that stuff, but she'd never admit it
herself. Maybe she'll post photos. Came back, ate more good food, and then I
made it back home in record time.

Post Canyon is one of my favorite places to ride. There is a lot of good
stuff to be had there. I remember growing up that area was used as the old
refridgerator dumping ground. It has been cleaned up a lot.

Very nice. Now I promised Steve (Gab's man) that I'd look them up next time
we pass through, since I always stay the night there at the Best Western on
the river, which has an awesome view of Mt Hood. Nothing like sitting in
the jacuzzi, outside, while the rain is falling, (isn't it always?) with
that huge white mountain looking down, while I snap my fingers for another
    brewski....

That doesn't work at my house. I must have got the econo package. 😉

Where? I don't know the area out that-a-way at all, & don't have a guide
book that covers it. It would be nice to have a backup Dry Side ride
other than Syncline (PoisonOakCline, more like).

Penny, if you get back before the snow level comes down, ask Gab to take you
up to Knebal Springs. Beautiful Fall ride.

That's an excellent view ride. I like to add in the extra 6 miles of
Eight Mile & make it an all-day affair.

It still is used as an appliance dumping ground, among other things. Did
you read my "Cleanup Report" from earlier this spring? I found an actual

    (isn't it always?) ...

    ....Depends...

We left Portland on Saturday, heading east through Hood River. It rained
sheets off and on all the way. Just at Hood River, the cloud line was
pretty straight. The good old "Cascades Mountains" effect kept the west
side in rain and mist, the east side in mostly sun. We did our weekend
riding a little east of the Deschutes River ride, so it was dry with just
some mud puddles to play in.

Speaking of that, while I was covering the SWIMBA booth Saturday morning, I
rummaged through an old Dirt Rag and found a great picture of a teeter
totter from Sea Otter. I'm a poet, dontcha know it, and I really liked the
design. Will get busy on that.

Is Syncline the ride up from Courteney Road ? I'm afraid our ride was
nothing you'd want to check out. We took some novice friends riding on
primitive rural roads near Goldendale. We have a little cabin in the area,
so our recent rides have been limited to a few hours during work breaks :-(
We'll be researching rides closer to Satus pass when time and weather
allow - the terrain looks excellent for some epic trails, will keep you
    posted.

  18. Yeah, we do periodic "baggie" rides on some of our favorite trails. Take a
hiking backpack and ride until we fill it with beer cans and whatever other
gems the local trail users decide to favor us with. We're religious about
pack-in/pack-out, then you turn a corner and see where some ass has dumped
his load of old shingles to avoid the $5 dump fee.
