There is no evidence of this -- your statement is conjecture. Given
the ease with which the authenticity of the memos was discounted, it's
also possible that Bush supporters produced the memos. But there's no
evidence for that either.
Clearly, CBS messed up.
It's much more than this John. CBS has been working on this story for four
years. During that time they found absolutely nothing to back up this story.
Knox (LC Killian's secretary) who is a professed Bush hater was the only one
that ever came up with this story about Killian writing himself memos.
Killian's wife and his son who was also in the Air National Guard at that
time, said that Killian never kept personal files because he held his
thoughts to himself and entirely in his head.
If 60 Minutes couldn't bring this story out BEFORE the election it wouldn't
be newsworthy. After the election Bush will either be in for his final term
or out and no one will care.
So Dan Rather and CBS made a concious decision to use what they knew to be
forged documents in order to support their "American Spectator-esque" view
of the world.
As it turns out Burkett, an Army National Guard member who had nothing
whatsoever to do with Bush bragged on a left-wing newsgroup some months ago
that he'd "reconstructed" Bush's military files.
Noticable by it's absence was Dan Rather's questions to Ms. Knox asking her
if she'd described the exact contents of Killian's supposed memos about Bush
to anyone else besides them. Plainly both parties knew what the answer would
be.
The memos were so obviously faked that it was barely 5 minutes after they
were posted on the internet before there were literally hundreds of people
crying "fake"! Burkett has said in public that he's been trying everything
to obtain a position in a Kerry administration. Moreover Burkett is carrying
a grudge against Bush because he has been in an argument for many years over
a disease he claims to have contracted in the ANG in Panama and the Veterans
Administration has repeatedly contested that claim since he hadn't any signs
of it during or after his stay there. He has transferred this anger towards
President Bush and it is traceable by his many postings on leftist posting
groups.
There is the question about Marian Carr Knox and her supposed memories of
Bush. It would be normal of her to remember the way she typed memos but what
we see from this 86 year old woman is the claim that she can remember the
contents of memos typed about Bush from 31 years or more ago. Now since she
would have typed up thousands of documents in her 30 years in government
service exactly what would have stuck in her mind about George W. Bush, a
typical happy-go-lucky fighter pilot type whose main essense was the ability
to disappear in a group of more than two? My guess is that the thing that
really stuck in her head was that he was President of the United States
right now. And that made all the difference between the Bush she remembered
as a normal stick jockey in '72 and the Bush who she claimed she typed up
memos about 31 years ago claiming that he missed a physical.
Let's just look at that sort of claim. Bush was the son of a relatively
powerless representative

I suppose we have to wonder exactly what this crime was that Bush is said to
have committed. Well, it was in Dan Rather's words "Well, then, George Bush
defied direct orders!" Err, is that so? If that's the case one has to wonder
exactly what sort of military disipline if available in the ANG since the
report is that 1/3rd of all Guard pilots miss a physical at one time or
another.
Was this a case of having to just pop into a hospital at some time and get
inspected? No, as a matter of fact, all of the doctors were Guard, all of
the involved personel. It TOO was a Guard exercise and it too had to have
everyone there and because it was the Air National Guard and all of its
members were civilians with real jobs as well, physicals were missed if not
with regularity at least often enough that it wasn't cause for comment nor
remembrance.
Bush could have waited for the next time that physicals were scheduled but
then, he was getting out and there certainly wasn't any reason to steal a
flying position from someone that wanted it.
The fact that the entire Bush attack is little more than a tempest in a
teapot is dwarfed by the intend of CBS to resort to absolutely any means to
assault a sitting President. Virtually every facet of their story is a
fabrication from beginning to end.
I believe that this is an extremely serious charge against CBS and that
their license to broadcast should be removed.
