Could be a troll by Abus, or Master . . .

Kryptonite Evolutions are now made in Taiwan. Does it happen to the old ones? The New York Lock?

I've got a 15 y.o Citadel (the Pommie ones). The key's getting a bit worn (lost the 'spare'😉, but I've had about 5 serious attempts ( that I know of) for someone other than me to get it open without a key and it still works fine.

Vistalite 300 rear lights dropped off in quality after they stopped making them in the US, as well.

It seems to apply to many locks with the round key-barrel whatsie.

Took literally 5 seconds to open my Big Badarse dlock with a crappy free pen.
Sure, locks are defeatable, but this easy? According to Google this is an old
    trick (like 1992). Sheesh.

A Krypto response stolen from another list 🙂

We understand there are concerns regarding tubular cylinders used in some
Kryptonite locks. The tubular cylinder, a standard industry-wide design,
has been successfully used for more than 30 years in our products and other
    security applications without significant issues.

The current Kryptonite locks based on a tubular cylinder design continue to
present an effective deterrent to theft. As part of our continuing
commitment to produce performance and improved security, Kryptonite has
been developing a disc-style cylinder for some years. In 2000, Kryptonite
introduced the disc-style cylinder in its premier line of products, the New
York series. In 2002, Kryptonite began development of a new disc cylinder
system for both its Evolution and KryptoLok product lines, which currently
use the tubular cylinder design. These products are scheduled to be
introduced in the next few weeks.

We are accelerating the delivery of the new disc cylinder locks and we will
communicate directly with our distributors, dealers and consumers within
the coming days. The world just got tougher and so did our locks.

So Kryptonite locks were the same standard as those cylinder locks
on old computers? one key/pen cap fits all?

Great, I'm really glad I never brought one.

I wouldn't call a pen lid especially tough. This sounds like the sort of bureaucratic language companies/governments use when there's a great big gaping hole in what they do or make, revealed by something very simple, and they are attempting to sound serious about it without looking too silly.

(sigh) back to carrying around a welder (at least these new inverters are light), an angle grinder and a length of chain again . . . (bigger sigh)

Other companies producing the same sort of lock
have the same problem. Not really an excuse, but.. ?
They still make crazy tough chains! Use a different
lock and she'll be right. Or, better yet, don't leave a
good bike out of your sight. That's what [censored] are
    for.

I wonder how many bike thieves read the forums?

Well they are the same locks on vending machines.. and within 5
minutes of telling the guys at work about the vulnerability, they were
sampling significantly discounted coffeinated beverages coutesy of a
    large multinational!

So yes the word spreads very fast and people experiment.

I will be reverting to the flat key very soon!!

Apparently the Bic-pick method has been known for over ten years:

Anyway, Kryptonite are planning some sort of upgrade, details to be
    announced.
