Do you self serve?

Was bike shop mechanic during my formative years. I cannot weld very well, so I would not trust my welding technique enough to ride a frame that I crafted. Other then that, I do everything else, and would feel violated and dirty having anyone else's wrench touch my mountain bike.

I'm the exact opposite. I'm firmly convinced that the entire economy of cycling in my region would go down the tubes if I didn't personally support the local bike shops and then their kids would starve and it would entirely be my fault and there's no way I can live with that kind of guilt..... 🙁

And NO, I don't fix flats. I have a husband for that. All together now...can we all say "PRINCESS????"....oh yeah. you want to believe it.

TYPICAL WOMAN, WOULDN'T KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A SPANNER AND A SCREW DRIVER, SO YOU SEND IT TO THE BIKE SHOP SINCE YOU AIN'T GOT A CLUE ABOUT THE MECHANICS OF THE BIKE. "IS THAT NOT MORE ALONG THE LINES OF THE TRUTH?" BE HONNEST NOW, YOU OWE IT TO YOURSELF AND THE OTHERS ON THE BOARD.

I DESIGNED AND BUILT MY LAST MTB, REQUIRED A LITTLE WELDING SINCE I WANTED LESS BOUNCE IN THE BACKEND, AND I THOUGHT IT NEEDED MAKING A LITTLE MORE RIGID SINCE I WAS LOOSING POWER, BUILT MY OWN WHEELS AND SET UP MY OWN GROUPO, I SERVICE IT MYSELF EVER 300MILES OR WHEN EVER A PROBLEM ARISES, I BUILT MY OWN ROADBIKE, AND TT BIKE WITH WHAT I FELT WAS BEST SUITED AND MADE SEVERAL ALTERATIONS TO THE FRAME TO MAKE IT RUN THE DESIRED GROUPO.

UNLESS I CAN'T FIND MY TOOLS, "THANKS WIFEY FOR PUTTING THEM AWAY SAFELY".

I HOWEVER HATE ALTERING BB'S. ESPECIALLY ON MY TT SINCE HAMMER AND CHISEL DON'T GO DOWN TO WELL ON DURA ACE 🙂

tubing, would one not prefare to use composite materials and spider foam.

ohh by the way, when i first left school i did engineering, my job used to be welder plater. so infact, i am familiar with argon, oxy and acet, mig,brazing, soldering and tig.

so if i wanted i could put together my own, if i had the tools. 🙂 but i try to limit manuafcture to replacing my drop out, since the bike i have i can't purchase a replacement from anywhere. you mean composite with designs like that?

Oh puuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhlllllleeeeeese....It's not rocket science, figuring out how to change a flat. And yes, I actually do know the difference between a spanner and a screwdriver. I even own my own tool box and a multi tool thingie.

I don't do it because I don't want to. I have absolutely ZERO interest in the subject. I don't change my oil in my car either. Or the spark plugs.

Besides, my mechanic is cute. And I simple adore him. I think I'll marry him and bear his babies...oh right, I did that...about 16 years ago.

A little sass, a little humor, nice rebuttal.

I encourage my better half to try and fix stuff on her own. Not because I am unwilling to, but because I want her to be self-sufficient. If she is out and about without me, and has a flat or snaps a chain I know she has the confidence and the skill to fix it and be able to get back home.

Although, I think I might have created a monster, I woke up last Sunday to find her halfway through re-tiling the kitchen backsplash.
