A while back Dan's 4-Banger broke. Busted weld. He bought a Heckler to replace it. The owner of the LBS where he bought the 4-Banger was finally able to wring a Ruckus frame out of GT's local rep. Better than nothing, which is what we figured we'd get out of a warranty written by a defunct company. Anyhow, Dan's building the Ruckus up as a single speed and is looking for options on the chain tensioner. He's got a Kore Chain Reactor but is wondering if a Singulator might be a better choice. Opinions? Other options?

Presuming Dan's new frame is aluminum, you're options are likely limited to a) getting really lucky with chain length and ring sizes (see Sheldon Brown's SS info), b) tensioners (the Kore didn't work for my frame, btw), or c) the new concentric-hub wheels, which are supposed to be very good, but a little pricey, or d) other technology avail that I am totally ignorant of.

The Kore was a tensioner for geared bikes which allowed shifting but kept tension on the chain so it was less likely to fall off. (I never got one to work right.) If he's going SS (why? oh why?!) then he'll need to get a SS specific tensioner like the Singulator.

Singulator has the most aesthetic look to me, but other threads bash it pretty badly on durability/reliability.
I've used Rohloff's tensioner and been happy.
Currently using Paul's Melvin and am hppy with it too.
For a hardtail, I tries White Bros eccentric hub. It works, but I'm not happy with it. Doesn't stay adjusted all the time, seems TB too much engineering for the problem at hand, and it costs an arm and a leg.
The most appealing add-on solution that I've seen (but not tried... and can't find the URL for...) is a gizmo that attaches to the rear dropout, but does not use a spring. -- PeteCresswell

I bought this for my SS convert. Dunno if they have any more. But if he's got the chain reactor, why not try it first? I had a derailleur I used as a chain tensioner and it worked, but not as well as the part below.
