  1. I'm looking for any input, positive or negative on theses diets-The Zone and the Akiens Diet..In
regards to high mileage runner.. I have always carried a little extra body fat, I'm wondering if one
of these diets has been successful for anyone.....

  2. Diets are a trick thing. I have lost 80 lbs in the past few months on mine, went from 140 to 160. I
tried about every diet there was including the Atkins diet. Personally nothing worked for me. I
would loose 5 lbs and pack on 10 to 15 each time. What finally worked for me was going to the doctor
who put me on a diet suppressant with daily work-outs and proper eating schedule. If I could give
any advice, it would be to speak with a professional.

  3. I've been on Atkins almost a month, and lost about 10 pounds so far. Its a great way to control your
weight, and more importantly any food cravings you had before will go away. Also I'm not hungry all
the time like I was before.

What do you mean when you say high mileage? I run by time - about 400 mins/wk, and the atkins diet
did slow me down at first. It takes time for the body to adjust to a protien/fat metabolism. Also on
my long runs I still take sports drink because otherwise I don't enjoy it at all. I do no carbo
loading right now and I can see atkins is teaching my body to burn fat better already. For races I
will do some carbo loading, probably about 1/3 of what I did before. Right now I'm limiting the
simple sugars to during the workout only for long runs allowing a replacement drink within 30 mins
of finishing. Also I'm adding protein to my sports drink too. For off days and days with short runs
I take no simple sugars and limit carbs.

Try going to Amazon and reading the reviews on teh Atkins Diet books. There are plenty of positive
    and negative remarks on there.
