These things of course would have some weight to them. Perhaps you
could get enough of them (because you are a good biker) that your bike
would get so heavy that eventually it would require a lot of effort to
ride, and you would be proud of accomplishing a century.

I would think these rings could be a good thing. 1 ring every thousand
miles would certainly give you something to work for, beyond the
obvious satisfaction of riding another 1,000 miles.

Great ideas never die. About 20 years ago I was thinking about creating
a series of these, with locales like Hemet Calif, Wheeling WV, Raleigh
NC, and so forth.

Bet the web would make this easy. IIRC I got through perhaps Arkansas
in the Rand McNally before shelving it.

That is a GREAT suggestion, Have the "momento" or emblem or whatever
designed with the two slots - much like various hookups of computers,
run the zip tie through, tighten and clip the excess.

This would also allow moderately easy changing of the "momento" to a
new or different bike.

I cut slots in the sides of plastic skull rings offered as Halloween
favours.

They're those cheap plastic rings with a band that's designed to split
so it fits a range of small finger sizes. I slice off the bands and
cut small slots to take the zip-tie.

A molded plastic memento, styled like a classic head badge, might look
cool.

Cycle Oregon (one week, 500 miles, lots of hills) gives you a soft
plastic think like they put on your wrist in a hospital that is a
different color each year and you put it on your bike so they know you
paid (I assume). I've kept these for the rides I've done. Few people
have any idea what they are for, but the give me fond memories. These
would fit any size frame and do not scratch paint.

I recently got a new bike and miss them.

I think whatever the product, it would need to be secure and tightly
affixed.

Ride the Rockies used the hospital wrist things.

So far, the best idea I have seen is some sort of high impact plastic
or similar material. I know that some of the new materials are almost
impossible to destroy. I just tried opening a small box secured by
soething that looked likse scotcj tape, and was defeated. The tape was
so strong I had to cut it with a knofe.

Also, zip ties seem very strong.

observant friend pointed out to me the inscription on the band: "Do Not

Zip ties used for attaching recognition would be extremely tacky.

Hey! I just got an idea. How about rubbery silicone bracelets embossed
with the name of the event? Different colors for different years.
They're pretty cheap to create, could probably sell them for $1.

And if you had leftovers, you could send the proceeds to a good cause,
say, oh, cancer research.

Still got my Female Doe ID from Maryland Shock Trauma around somewhere.
Probably in the same baggie where I've got my shrapnel and my screws.

(I don't just have a few screws loose, I've actually had them removed.)
