Yohimbe contains a-yohimbine also known as rauwolscine, coryanthidine, and
17a-hydroxyyohimban-16-carboxylic acid which is an alkaloid derived from the bark of several related
species of plant for example Coryanthe johimbe and Rauwolfia canescens. The alkaloid acts as a
alpha-2-type adrenergic receptor antagonist that affects the release of growth hormone and other
regulators. It may make the catecholamine discharges larger and longer because this receptor is
implicated in the negative feedback control over catecholamines. Understand there are a number of
subtypes in the alpha-2-type adrenergic receptor class so I maybe wrong on this last point. It is a
somewhat effective aphrodisiac, I recall reading that it helps about 30% of the impotent men who
took it for several months.
An antagonist is an agent that blocks or opposes the actions of hormones, neurotransmitters or other
regulators. Some are classed as competitive and others as noncompetitive depending on their actions
on the receptors.

2) if I bought from VitaminWorld, would there be much actual yohimbe in
it?
Quoted message said:Nothing against them, particularly, but I'd read in the past that when buying things like ginseng
from ANY supplier, most brands had little or no ginseng in the tablets. But, maybe things are
different now, especially considering that a large chain like VitaminWorld *might* conduct assays
on all their products. True or not?
Remember there are different types of ginseng. I suspect that the Korean ginseng is more effective
than the Russian ginseng. And tradition hold that it depends on where and how the plant is raised.
Wild grown was considered best back in the 19th century when it was gathered in the North America
and shipped to Asia as a trade item. In others words such things might effect the alkaloid content
of the herb; therefore, one gram of ginseng will not equal the gram of another ginseng for a couple
of different reason besides the amount in the tablet.
