LOL! I'll try very hard to feel superior when I try this.

Smoothie, Carol. Blender container, yogurt, frozen berries and/or
banana. Honey (or whatever). Whiz till it's---smooth.

I've never made a smoothie because they all seem to have so much sugar.
Gonna get me some unsweetened frozen berries, yesseribob. I'll sweeten the
smoothie with Splenda. Unfortunately, bananas put my blood sugars through
    the roof.

I'm getting boring now that I'm acting like a diabetic again. 🙂

Rick makes smoothies all of the time without *adding* sugar - he derives the
needed sweetness from using apple juice and/or a banana.

Carol, actually you will not need 'any' sugar in a smoothie IMO, even if you
don't use a banana. If you want to make a smoothie that is more berrylike
than milk-yogurt like, you can use the blueberry juice, which is quite good.
Do your homework on what Splenda actually is. I've heard different things
    about it.
I bought a bottle of Knudsen's 100% cranberry juice, and jeepers, was it
sour! I had to add blueberry juice, which isn't that sweet either.

I dunno. I've been using it for three years, and haven't had any problems,
    but I'll check into it.

Does it have fur? Or blue and pink stuff on top? If not, it should be
OK. In other words, it's OK unless it's obviously not.

No fur coat. 🙂 I'm happily eating a bowl of it, flavored with Da Vinci
sugar-free vanilla syrup and some cinnamon. My favorite way to eat yogurt.

    Thanks, Bob!

Carol, hon, don't let people freak you out about Splenda. It was used for
years in Europe before it got EPA approval in the US. There are tons of
longitudnal studies, and it's just fine as an artificial sweetener.

It's like anything else, some people hate it, some don't, some tolerate it
fine, some don't. If you've been using it for three years with no problems,
don't sweat it too much. The only real problem with it as an artificial
sweetener is that it does tend to make people eat MORE sweets than they
might have otherwise, which can cause problems.

There are a few wacko groups out there who get all up in arms about things
like this, and spending just a short time on google looking at sites that
give every appearance of being sane (until you get to the bit about how
this is all a conspiracy to ruin the health of the world), you'll see that
there isn't anything people won't say about Splenda (both pro or con!). 🙂

I'm a type 2 diabetic. I also have heart issues. I have to follow a low fat
low carb diet. I don't always do it. I mainly stick to the food chain.
Works for me. My past 3 months Glycemic count was 77. I was happy with
that. I cheated this weekend. Oh, Carol is *never* boring.

Atkins is great for diabetes and for keeping your blood sugars in check.
Once upon a time, I lost 40 pounds on Atkins in 6 months. Then I fell off
the wagon, pretended to myself that I wasn't really diabetic (this happens
from time to time - I guess it's common), and gained it all back.

Anyway, moderation in carbs is a good way to control diabetes. 🙂

77??? That's really low for a diabetic. What kind of meter readings are
you getting? Are they *sure* that you're diabetic?

When you make your own, you can adjust the seasonings to your own taste.
I've never made anything Mexican except tacos, and I made those the U.S.
way, not the authentic way. At any rate ... it doesn't have to be hot if
you don't want it to be.

Not at all. Mexican cuisine is just as highly regionalised as any other
cuisine. Plenty to eat without using a single chile/chilli!
How about whole fish, marinated in lime juice and salt, then baked in a
sauce containing tomatoes, onion, garlic, bay leaves, oregano, parsley
and a few capers? Very Mexican but not spicy at all.
