  1. Yo Yo Yo,

I've heard of people using yoga as part of their training routine to help develop flexibilty and improve the strength of specifically targeted muscle groups, say lower back muscles for example.

Anyone here use yoga and if so what are you experiences?

  2. I took up Yoga a while ago and find it great for general flexibility and strength, also good for stamina too I reckon - some of those postures look easy at first - but just try holding them! Yoga is a holistic approach - so you won't just work on one set of muscles, but you can concentrate part of your workout if you have specific goals.

To my mind the two will complement each other - the yoga flexibility helps counteract muscle tightening from cycling. Since I still have a lot of work to do with the fitness, I find the breathing exercises really good too, using them helps control getting 'puffed' on hills.

If you're thing of taking it up I'd say go for it - find a good class and enjoy it!

    Namaste😉

  3. I started Yoga first and then began cycling. So I can''t sya that Yoga made me a better cyclist but I sure don't have any problems with sore muscles after races. I have scaled back my yoga and tailored it to my new cycling lifestyle.

I would suggest if you want to try yoga to take a class for awhile first. That is what I did until i got to understand how my body worked a little better. Then I bought some books and made my own routines with streches and poses that seemed to fit with cycling (a lot of twists, should and knee streches, hamstring etc...).

Liek Pilates, Yoga really works at developing a stringer core strength (abs, back muscles etc...). I find this really helps keep my back feeling good on long distance rides and helps my balance on the bike a lot.

Try looking at a local YMCA or something similar, and go in with an open mind and bare feet. It will take a few classes to catch on to what is happening.
