I have been recording video of my commuting to and from work by bicycle
pretty often.
Sometimes the camera is forward sometimes it is facing to the rear (I was
curious as to if the motorists were doing anything behind me.
Anyway, as I was cutting through an industrial pack at about dawn, I passed
or was passed by this wrong way rider going the other way.
http://earlwb.onlinestoragesolution.com/Wrong_Way_Rider.wmv It is a short
video clip about 2.5 megabytes in size.
I saw him coming this time, as there is enough light to see far ahead. At
least this time this wrong way rider chose to veer out into the road to pass
me.
A few months ago on another highway, I almost had a head on collision with a
previous wrong way rider who didn't veer or anything at that time.
I only had on my bicycle headlights, no streetlights or anything, and I just
saw him with a split second to decide to veer out to the left to pass him.
He was wearing all dark clothing, no lights, no refelctors or anything.
Riding the wrong way on a road that has a 50mph speed limit.
Unfortunately I my video recording system doesn't work in the dark so I
couldn't get a video of it then.
A few days before then a wrong way cyclist got hit by a car that pulled out
in front of him from a Wal-Mart Superstore, as he was traveling at a high
rate of speed traveling the wrong way down a freeway access road (one way).
Who looks the the right on a one way road, when they are pulling out to get
on the access road?
About a month ago, a security guard got hit by a car crossing a danerously
busy highway freeway. He was trying to cut across all the lanes of traffic
to cross over the freeway.
He could have simply used the freeway overpass a half mile south of where
the accident occured to more safely get across, but he chose not to.
