Workstand Clamp Safety

Just "hang" the bike on the clamp form the top tube and either don't close the clamp or set it so it does not squeeze the tube just close around it.

Is it ok to clamp on the seat tube if the seat post is inside the tube throughout the area where the clamp will be positioned? It seems to me that this would be as effective as using the seatpost itself, and it would make life easier.

I use the same stand. The primary reason I bought it is because it is almost impossible to hurt the tubes on any bike. The clutch system on it prevents it from overtightening. Ive never had a problem and I wrench on my whole teams' bikes.
