I would guess that because it is on the return side it is not very inefficient. Those turns on the
power side would probably be very inefficient.

I would guess that is the main reason: although it may also provide a little extra support for the
(slack) return chain. I have no problems without the rollers on my Kett.

I do not see why not: save a bit of friction, and a bit of weight. And save a bit of noise ?
