With the onset of cold winter weather I wore my winter gloves for the first time. Only problem was that the material on the tips of my index finger made it difficult to use the shifters, especially the small shifter - I got part of the glove caught in the small space between the big and small shifting lever!
Now I know that the obvious answer is to get a scissors and snip the top of the glove off the first finger to allow for more 'feel' when shifting the small lever. I wanted to see if other forum users had done this, only to lose the benefits of winter gloves as the cold can get in through the tips of the 1st finger!!
Are your gloves winter cyclilng gloves? Trek makes a good pair.

They are Ultegra shifters. And the gloves are Altura Winter cycling gloves. They do fit me quite well but at the tips of the fingers there's a little bit of excess material there that stops me from 'feeling' the levers in the same way as I can when I'm wearing summer mitts. And like I said before, I actually jammed the tip of my finger between the small and large shifting lever. I guess I will end up cutting the tips off the index fingers but it seems weird to have to do this for a pair of specific cycling gloves
Try a pair of Gates dress gloves and polypropolene liners. I put the polypro liners under my cycling gloves. Then the dress gloves go over the cycling gloves. You can get leather dress gloves with thinsulate or cashmere. And they are not very expensive at discount stores (do you live in US? If so, try Marshalls, etc) or at Sierra Trading Post:
The liner, cycling glove and dress glove combo is warm and compact if it is snug, but not real tight. I use downtube shifters, but I bet this glove outfit would work with brake lever shifters.
If it is not too too cold, I skip the liners and use the dress gloves alone under the cycling gloves. Polypro alone has no wind protection at all.
i like sealskinz, or my free Gore windstopper fleece gloves (i got free long ago when gore was having a promo), but mostly i just use my x-country ski gloves with or without a liner.
