I am looking into buying a Windsor Cliff 4700 mountain bike, I'm not really familiar with Windsor, but what I've discovered is that they've been making road bikes for quite a while. Does anyone know anything about their mountain bike line? I've been told that they are just starting to get into mountain bikes, and I was able to find this particular bike from bikesdirect.com for $400, which seems like an extremely low price. I'm kind of skeptical, and I hate making uneducated purchases, so any help would be much appreciated.

don't known anything about the company as I have never heard of them in the UK. The parts spec for that bike looks ok but don't be fooled by the deore/deore xt groupset. that means XT rear mech and deore everywhere else! The forks are pretty rubbish but for that price it is the best you can realistically expect. They have also used a lot of their own components which helps to keep the cost down but I don't know what the quality of their parts is (could be rubbish could be excellent). I am not a big fan of mechanical disks, I think they don't offer sufficient benefits over Vees for the weight penalty (the units and rotors are ehavier but so are disk hubs) to be worthwhile.
If you can, have a ride on one and see how it fits you, try not to buy without trying is the general rule of thumb unless you know exactly what you are after.
