Will an LX derailler work better?

The jockey and tension wheels are showing some real wear on my old
Tourney TY-15 derailleur after about 20,000 miles. Are the new
Tourney components of a lower grade from what they were 10 years ago?
The new entry level road bikes are sporting Sora grade components but
I was quite satisfied with the life I got from the Tourney TY-15.
Would the new Shimano MR-40 derailleur shift a seven speed freewheel
any better than a new old stock TY-15 which was designed for 5 and 6
speed freewheels?

Low-end Shimano stuff has generally gotten better, so yes the newer
model would probably work better. On a bike you ride so much, it's a
pretty good idea to just get a new, rather than used, derailer.
Lightly used is okay too. Deore stuff is a good value.
