If so, what's the best way to enjoy backpacking in Austria

good backpacking information on the area?
Don't know anything about the law, but I had indeed no
problem wild camping in Austria - I have been there four
times now, twice in Styria and twice in Tirol (the
westernmost parts). Though I must immediately admit I am
groing older and though I still carry my tent, I use it more
and more sparsely... Of course, this was the mountains -but
I guess you don't intend to hike through Salzburg suburbs
either. At least once, I stopped nearby a village not too
far from Graz and asked permission to pitch in a meadow -no
problem. At other times, I pitched near full huts -no
problem either- once near a nearly empty hut, and of course
at times in the middle of nowhere, but there I could not
expect any problem.
OK that is just a personal and limited experience, but I
think you should not renounce your initial plans. Perhaps
should you post on
