now, tell me, does a wider tire on an ultimate make a significant change? more stable, slower, what should keep me from pimping mine out with a 24 x 2.5, if anything?

I've never tried a real UW, I've only taken the wheel off my 20x2.5" trials unicycle and tried it like that, which is very wide...and I could pretty much do it, but anyway, I believe the skinner the wheel is and the closer the pedals are to the vertical center, the easier it is, which is why most UW's have no cranks and just have the pedals attached right on to the wheel. So wider probably won't help.
