I have recently put together an early 80's road bike with parts found on Ebay. I have a combination of mostly Dura Ace and Campy Record components, and am trying to keep it all somewhat cohesive in terms of getting quality parts from the same era. I'm not a super-purist or anything... Anyway, I'm sure if I started riding with cleats, there would be no turning back, but I use my bike for transportation, so I need a pair of pedals that is wide enough to accomodate regular street shoes. I'm not talking Frankenstein boots here, just sneakers. At the moment, I am using Zeus, which look like Campy Superleggeri. They work, but not comfortably. Too narrow. Any suggestions from you vintage road bike nerds out there? If I have to, I'll throw on some plastic mountain bike pedals, but I would hate to do that. The bike is pretty classy, and I would hate to step it down.

I have seen people that have filed off the quill on the pedal to allow for more width on the pedal. Maybe that might work for you.
