My family's just decided to make biking an everyday occurrence and leave the car parked as often as possible. We have two little boys, 1 and 3 years old who have been biking since they were 6 months old. I'm about to get my awesome Yuba Mundo (yubaride.com) cargo bike to help lug the boys and all our supplies/gear/groceries/touring equipment/etc. We live in Sacramento where we are lucky to have a decent cycling infrastructure and the American River bike trail and we plan on exploring overnight trips in all directions.
Hello neighbor! I live in Sacramento too. I am car-light. I've been using my bicycle for transportation, utility, and recreation almost all my life. I couldn't imagine living any other way, especially with gas over $4 a gallon and parking in midtown at a premium. I also refuse to pay to park a motor vehicle. I'd rather ride my bike there instead.
We are lucky to have places like the Sacramento Bicycle Kitchen and Edible Pedal in midtown. The Bicycle Kitchen helps cyclists repair their own bikes, and Edible Pedal is a car-free food delivery service.
