I have always been a scotch lover. But, my selections always were the most advertised Speyside variety. A very famous Scotsman was asked what did he like, and his answer was Highland Park. So, I tried a bottle. Scotch up front but wow what was going on with the back end? Smoke. Slight peat finish. This stuff is good and balanced. So I turned to google and found others. Islay others where peat and smoke are strong and up front as well as in the finish. Now I regularly have a bottle of Laphroaig or Ardbeg 10 on hand. Fantastic peat bombs. I can smell the peat as the glass sits on the table. So, I tried the gold standard. Lagavulin 16. Fantastic scotch. But, I find its balanced presentation reminds me more of the Highland Park than its Islay neighbors. So, I guess I've come full circle. What has been your scotch journey?
