Does anyone have a full list for 1976 and an explanation of why the
third place is vacant. Interestingly enough the Milan San-Remo results
(also from 1976) have no official third place. According to the link
below "Vandenbroucke came 2nd but was disqualified (failed drugs test).
Wladimir Panizza was moved up to 2nd place, while the 3rd place was left
vacant."

Yes. Third was Staf van Roosbroeck, but because he tested positive, he was
disqualified.

It was common practice. According to the regulations the first three of any
offcial race had to be tested and because number 4 usually wasn't, he could
not be moved to the 3rd place.
