weightlifters need a high count of white blood cells? I might start an
antipsychotic called clozaril and it has a possible side effect of
reducing white blood cell count to a dangerous level. I will have to
take blood tests if I try it. Any info on white blood cell count and
its importance for weightlifters and muscle growth would be appreciated

Well, if you're sick all the time from a crippled immune system you're
not going to be all that great at bodybuilding. White blood cells are
all the different types of immune cells in the blood lumped into one
count. I assume, because I have to leave in five minutes and don't have
the time to look it up, that this drug causes neutropenia (one of the
many types of white blood cell)? You should have your white cell count
checked regularly after you start using it. Like weekly probably for the
first few weeks to see if you're going to develop this side effect.
Depending on how well the drug works for you, what other drugs are
available, and how severe the neutropenia is (or lymphocytopenia, if
that's what it causes), ASSUMING this even eventuates, which it may not.
Severe neutropenia, however, can be very dangerous, so I'd go ahead and
get these blood tests done religiously and make sure you have followups
with your doctor soon after, or have him arrange to have someone who
understands what these counts mean phone you and tell you what they are
and if there's a problem.
Regards,
Ari

I'm going to die rather sooner than I'd like. I tried to protect my
neighbours from crime, and became the victim of it. Complications in
hospital following this resulted in a serious illness. I now need a bone
marrow transplant. Many people around the world are waiting for a marrow
transplant, too. Please volunteer to be a marrow donor:
