Hi everyone ='😉
Sorry for a numpty posting but I need some help and advice choosing a cyle.
Here's the story...
I have recently moved house a lot closer to my work and I want to start cycling there and back for fitness and to lose some (more) weight.
I live on the Lincolnshire Wolds and so the journey to work (12 miles) is very downhill most of the way (can't wait to see what max speed I can get! I've had 56mph on the Marin!) but obviously it's very uphill on the way back, so I guess gearing is important as I need to maintain some reasonable speed on the way home.
The things I think I'm looking for are:
- A good frame that'll last for a while
- Reasonable quality components
- A reputable name brand
- Good gearing (for above reasons)
- Something in the region of £250-£300 (if there is such a thing!). I don't want to spend a fortune in case I don't take to it, and I don't want to spend money on a Halfords special unless it'll do me. I've got a feeling I'll regret buying one from there 'cos it won't last me five minutes.
I already have a Marin Palisades Trail with "road" tyres fitted but years of abuse 🙂 in its off-road life have ended up with dinks and some minor wobbles on its rims, so I was going to simply replace the wheels an go with the Marin, but I think it'll be tediously hard work on the inclines and I need to spend some money on it doing it up so if I'm gonna spend £150+ on wheels alone I may as well go whole hog buy something more appropriate.
Bikes I've seen so far:
- Carrera Valour
- GIANT OCR 4
- CLAUD BUTLER - SAN REMO
- CLAUD BUTLER - SAN REMO TRIPLE
- CLAUD BUTLER - MILANO
It's all a bit overwhelming but I'm very much open to suggestion , So...
What can you all advise?
Thanks
