  1. Which herbs (and other natural products) are contraindicated with
zoloft? I know that St. John's Wort is one of them. Also, I have
some nutritional supplements that list the chemicals in them. Which
of these chemicals should one look out for while taking zoloft?

Please respond to the group, and not to my email.

    Thank you very much!

  2. 5HTP. It activates serotinin and can push you into seratonin syndrome.

Zoloft is sertraline, isn't it? (brand name Lustral in the UK).

The caution on St John's Wort is because of its supposed monoamine
oxidase inhibitor activity (maybe not very great in reality) -
taking heavy-duty MAOI drugs with an SSRI like sertraline can kill
you (violently and unpleasantly). There are very few other natural
substances with MAOI activity. Some hallucinogens do that: e.g.
large quantities of the spice _Peganum harmala_ (Syrian rue) and
some of the substances taken along with the South American snuff
yopo/epena/yage. Unless you are dedicated to experimenting with
unusual hallucinogens you're unlikely to get into serious trouble
    from this sort of interaction.

There are quite a few interactions with prescription drugs, but
hopefully your doctor or the leaflet in the packet will have told
    you about those.

Any herb that have a MAO (Monoamine Oxidase) Inhibitor effect.
    Like passion flower.

Probably shouldn't take like 5-HTP either. 5-HTP is a supplement that
boosts serotonin levels... which is what zoloft works on. That might
sound too obvious, but there's a few weight loss supplements that use
5-HTP to suppress appetite besides depression / anxiety.

Your doc (and/or pharmacist?) should be able to give you a good
list... (unless they're one of those docs that dont take
supplements/herbs seriously, but thats drifting off topic abit. lol.)

  5. 5HTP can give you very bad reactions. Take small amount cautiously at first.
