I've narrowed my search for a hub geared, hub braked, fully equipped city bike to a traditional Dutch style of bike. From what I've read they seem to suit my requirements of reliability, very low maintenance, luggage room and built in accessories.
Does anyone have any experiance of the 2 seemingly biggest brands Batavus and/or Gazelle?
They both claim to build solid, bikes for life, which is what im seeking.

Forget those obsolete bikes, only suitable for short rides on mostly flat streets when there's no wind. If you don't want or need a road bike, the best choice is a good hybrid. If you still want a Dutch-style ride, add a braking parachute and some lead weights to the hybrid.

Obsolete is in the eye of the beholder. Harley-Davidson is still in business, aren't they?
