  1. Hey, Im not sure if this is the right spot to be posting this, I hope so ๐Ÿ˜• Anyway, Im just about to get a new bike which ill pretty much be using to ride to Uni on (which is just basically on roads and up a few hills), and some off road stuff, but no serious Mountain Biking. I've had a look at a few bikes and come up with these two:

    Giant Boulder SE:
    colours: Blue/Silver or Gloss Black
    user: Recreational rider
    frame: ALUXX 6061 Aluminum
fork: RST Capa CL, 65mm travel
    headset: 1 1/8th Ahead
rear derailleur: Shimano Altus 8/9 speed
    front derailleur: Shimano C102
    crankse:t Shimano TY33 28x38x48T splined
    derailleurshifters: Shimano Altus 24 speed
    cassette: Shimano 8 speed 11-30T
    chain: KMC Z-72 8 spd
hubs:Shimano Altus 8 speed cassette (rear), Joytech (front)
    rims: Alloy black 26x36H
    spokes: Stainless
    tyres: Kenda 26 x 2.1โ€ knobby
    brakes:Tektro alloy V-brakes
brake levers: Shimano Altus alloy V-brakes
    handlebar: Riser

    Price: ~$425

    BoulderSE

    And the:

    Giant Upland:
    colours: Mens: Silver or Black/Silver
    user: Recreational rider
    frame:ALUXX 6061 Aluminum
    fork: Rigid Cr-mo steel threadless
    headset: 1 1/8th Ahead
rear derailleur: Shimano TY23 7 speed
    front derailleur: Shimano C050
    crankset: Shimano TY33 28x38x48T splined
    derailleurshifters: Shimano Altus 24 speed
cassette: Shimano 7 speed 14-34T megarange freewheel
    chain: KMC Z-51 7 spd
hubs: Quick release front and rear
    rims: Alloy black 26x36H
    spokes: Stainless
    tyres: 26 x 2.0โ€ knobby
    brakes: Tektro alloy V-brakes
brake levers: Shimano Altus alloy V-brakes
    handlebar: Riser

    Price: ~$315

    Upland

The main differences between them is that the BoulderSE is 24Spd, and has front shocks whereas the Upland doesnt have shocks and is only 21Spd. My budget is around the $400 mark, so the BoulderSE is at the upper limit. Basically I was just wondering if I would need the shocks and extra speeds for what I want to use it for (which I said at the start ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) and whether it would be worht paying the extra ~$100 to get that stuff. If anyone knows of any other bikes that are similar and could be good for what I want them for, please post it ๐Ÿ™‚ What I really want is 24Spd without shocks, but I haven't been able to find any bikes that are set up that way.
Thanks in advance for any help ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh Yeah, and the Upland comes in a much better colour, all silver, looks very nice :P

PS: Im from Australia, so the prices are in $AUD ๐Ÿ˜‰

  2. Pay the extra for the shocks. If you start to get at all playful on the bike the shocks will pay for themselves.
