  1. anyone know what became of Djadmolodine Abdujaparov, known as Abdu for short?

one of the preeminent sprinters fron the early 90's, rode the sprint the way an artist paints a canvas. at least an artist who applies paint somewhat, er, liberaly.

for a good picture go here:

there is LOTS to be found on him still with a web search of his rise, fearsome wins and martyrdom but nothing on him as far as "whatever happened to"
    to be found?

when i started racing i went to numerous team clinics and he was the one talked about as the ruling sprinter.

  2. I don't know if you remember, but years ago in the TDF on the last stage in Paris, Abdu decided to test out the barriers on the side of the course. Probably one of the worst crash scenes in years.

Barriers won. In the process Abdu destroyed everything around him. I believe that kind of ended his career. Yes if he was around today I think he would be kicking Petacchi's ass. For shear power he was quite something.

  3. yes, he cut a broad swath allright. but it was drug test violations that took him out in the end. he was fired from his team as a scapegoat.
but where is he now, we kept track of the great climber Pantani so the same for the great sprinter i say.
