There's more to it than that, it also depends on the community and
culture. Roos told me she was never "a cyclist" until she moved to the
UK, although she's been getting about by bike as her standard transport
for many, many years. In a cycling culture, asking whether you're "a
cyclist" is more like asking "are you a pedestrian?" would be in the UK.

I'm a mottorcyclist when i'm riding my motorcycle
I'm a motorist when I'm driving my car
I'm a pedestrian when I'm walking
The rest of the time is devoted to being stationary.

When I drive a car, I'm still a cyclist. When I walk, I'm still a
cyclist.

I don't stop believing in the benefits that cycling brings just
because I'm not cycling at that moment.

I suppose I should call myself a car driver when I'm driving a car, as
opposed to a motorist, as I don't have faith in motoring as a social
pursuit.
