  1. when lacing a "traditional " wheel, regarding spokes on one flange, is
    it recommended that the spokes inserted from the inside of the flange
    pass at some cross on the outside of those inserted from the outside of
    the flange?
    if it is, why?

  2. Yes it is recommended, because there is less chance of a spoke becoming
    loose going over a bump as the crossed spoke exerts a force on it that
    tends to prevent it becoming slack.
