Wheel hubs: Do expensive hubs mean better bearings?

So, second-hand hubs, huh? Sounds like a gamble. You might score a killer deal, or you could end up with a total dud. What’s the deal with the hype around high-end hubs anyway? Is it really about performance, or are folks just flexing their wallets? I mean, if you’re dropping serious cash, you’d expect a noticeable upgrade, right?

And what’s with the obsession over bearings? Are they really that much better, or is it just a marketing gimmick? I get that some riders swear by their fancy setups, but is it all just a way to show off?

What’s the real difference between a budget hub and a high-end one? Is it worth the extra bucks? Or could that cash be better spent on something that actually makes a difference, like a solid frame or a killer drivetrain? Just trying to wrap my head around this whole hub thing.
