  1. I currently am riding a mountain bike turned road bike, and want to get into something lighter. I am working my way up in miles, and hope to maybe do a tour of some sort next year. I am not looking to race, just ride... used to be a runner and get the same joy now in riding. I am looking for advice as to what a good bike would be for me. I have been looking for something used on craigslist and ebay, but don't really know what I am looking for. Please offer advice!

    Thanks!!

  2. Have you been to a bike shop to see what's available? Are you set on a full on road bike? Or is a cross bike a possibility? I know a few buddies that crossed over from mtn but now ride cross bikes and are super happy. I suggest taking a few bikes out for a spin. Then when you know what you like? And your siZe. Continue watching craigslist. You never know when a gem pops up.

Thanks for your input.. I definately want to go road bike. I have been riding a few times a week, and have done a 55 mile ride a couple weeks back. I really think the extra weight of the mountain bike is a lot of extra work on the hills, and if I am going to be doing hundreds of miles on a tour, will a cross bike really work well for that? I am really interested in what is the best entry to mid level bike I should be looking at. I have been to a few bike shops, but getting different advice. I have found that 56cm is the size I am looking for...

  4. I started using my sons Giant mtn bike with road tyres to ride to work to get fit and lose some weight, my first road bike was a Giant CRX4, a really good bike for the road, used it for 2 years without a problem and have just recently upgraded to a Giant defy 1 another exellent bike. check the Giant website.
