  1. been reading up on training bible for cyclists, and can't seem to grasp one thing. The break through workout. Can someone simply explain what it is and how it should be used?

    It is my understanding that a BreakThrough workout is a workout intended to cause a significant, positive, adaptive response. These workouts can take 24+ hours to recover from.

    I think Friel states more like 48+ hours depending on the fitness levels and age of the individual. These are done above zone 3 in which a person can generally recover from in 24 hours.
