I have been looking at road and cross bikes with 105 and Ultegra componentry. The 105 seems to shift noticeably less smooth. I think I want a Jamis NOVA which comes with 105, as I really want to try a cross series that's about to start, it's open so no racing license required. Anyway, will I get big gains in smoothness by just upgrading the rear to an Ultegra, or will I need to upgrade the brifters too? Or is it more a question of the whole drivetrain?
I don't mind spending more money for a full Ultegra cross bike, but all the higher end cross bikes seem to come without rack mounts.
Hello bike companies, bicycles ARE transportation. Please make cross and road bikes with high end componentry that are still also good commuters.
