Unlikely to be telling you that the lights are too bright, but the drivers may
be letting you know that you need to change the angle ... Dip - Don't dazzle.

I have 3 front lights -- 1 hub dynamo powered and, mounted on the handlebars,
2 LED beams. I have one of the LED lights deliberately angled to shine at the
oncoming traffic. It is not normally switched on -- but I have a simple
flick switch which lets me flick it on and off quite quickly just to alert
oncoming cars to my presence -- just as you undip and dip the headlights in a
car. So at night I cycle with two lights on at the front and 3 lights at the
rear ( 1 steady, 1 on full blink on and off, and one helmet mounted random
sequence)
I am also festooned with hi viz aids round my ankles and wrists and my helmet
has a wide, very hi viz strip!

I've found a 3W LED headlamp to be useful for that sort of thing. You can
use it to give a good shine at people who look like they're about to pull
out in front of you...
