that the "experience" is different, which is well worth the extra 5100 bucks.
A bike is like a car, which can "feel fast", but is only a "perception and a feeling".
The "experience" people refer to is not the sensation of speed. I have a Bianchi Campione, which
falls roughly in the same price group as your Trek. It's a nice bike, but I see plenty of little
things that could be improved on it. Now, all these little things come with a price tag, and since
comparatively few people care about these little things, the price tag gets high pretty fast. Some
folks think that the "experience" is worth the price jump, some because they place that much value
in beautiful mechanics, and some for bragging rights too.
By the same token, a $20 WalMart watch, a $100 Swatch, and a $1000 Rolex all give the time just as
well, yet some folks will chose to pay 5 times or 50 times the price for basically the same
functionality. You could say the same thing about the "experience" of fine food vs. Chef Boyardee.
Your Trek is a nice bike, enjoy riding it, and don't be bothered by the fact that other folks are
willing to blow more mony for little objective added value.
