What HR zone for a 1 hour ride?

I just bought my first HRM a week ago and I love the thing. It makes training much more efficient. My max is 188 according to the formula. (Resting has been 64 the last two days) I have done a couple of tough climbs and was able to stay in the 155-175 range for about a half hour on each climb. 184 was my peak at the very end of the first climb.

This weekend I am going to try an hour ride at a swift pace. I am thinking of 160-170 zone the entire way. I am not sure this is possible though and may do two 30 minutes at 160-170 with a break in between.

Do you think this is a good zone for an hour ride?

Thanks

p.s. I know there are a ton of threads on HR but I haven't seen any that say how long to ride at 60%, then 80%, etc. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough???

I can only say about myself - on race approx.2 hours my average heart rate was 176 with maxHR - 198. Quite much though...the feeling after was not the best one  My maxHR calculated should be 183:)
But usually training on long rides, some 3 hours with something - it is averaging 134, with some climbs raising to about 180.

I think, if you brake between, with that you lose the effect of riding 1 hour, and your session becomes splitted in two parts. and thus it seems to be a session containing two interval workouts.

What are you trying to accomplish on the ride? Just to go as hard as you can for an hour?

See my heart rate zone calculator in the sticky above. It may help you in gauging your efforts. A "fun fast" ride is typically considered Tempo, which is a pace you should be able to sustain for 2 to 3 hours depending on fitness levels.
