I want to begin road racing next season after about 9 years of off and on cycling and a year of triathlon. I had a lactate/VO2 max/power test done with the following results:
Weight: 155 lbs. Age: 31 Male
Height: 5'9" Body Fat: 12.7%
VO2 max: 61.2 mL/kg/min
VO2 at LT: 55.5 mL/kg/min
LT HR: 179
Max HR: 193
LT Threshold % based on O2 consumption: 90%
LT Threshold % based on HR: 93%
Max Lactate after 100% effort: 4.4 mmols
Lactate 4 minutes post: 6.1 mmols
Power at LT: 340 W
Power at 100% Effort: 899 W
This test was done with a mask to determine VO2 max and finger [censored] blood tests to determine lactate levels. My questions are:
1. With these numbers is it able to predict my ability to be competitive at road racing, and perhaps what potential I may have?
2. What could be my potential strength, i.e., time-trialing, criteriums, climbing, etc.?
3. What weaknesses should I address and how?
4. With this being the end of the season, what should I do over the winter to prepare myself for next year? I am currently riding anywhere from 75-150 miles/week, but with no real structure.
Thank you for any input.
