  1. I can't seem to find the original thread to reply to but I
wanted to thank everyone for the suggestions last week. The
very first post reminded me of a dessert which is a
favorite at a local Spanish restaurant and I decided to
look up the recipe. I ended up breaking my "no dairy" rule
(my friend promised she'd make sure her husband didn't
forget his Lactaid) and made Natillas (vanilla custard
soup). I was pleasantly surprised to see how easy it was to
make. I can't recall where I found this recipe but it's
delicious. Come summer I will use some of the fruit
suggestions you all made (kinda difficult to find good
fruit in the Northeast right now).

Natillas (Vanilla custard soup) 2 cups heavy cream 5 egg
yolks ½ cup sugar 2 teaspoons high quality vanilla cinnamon
    for garnish

Scald cream in a thick bottomed pan that is not aluminum.
Whisk egg yolks and sugar for 2 minutes. Pour 1/3 of the
hot cream in to egg yolks and then pour egg yolk mixture
back into saucepan of cream. Return to medium high heat.
Stir constantly with a wooden spoon for about 4-5 minutes,
till mixture coats the back of spoon. Stir in vanilla and
chill for 2 hours Serve in small bowls of cups with a dash
    of cinnamon.
