I recently snapped my chain that was on my bike when I bought it, so swiftly bought a new one...a Shimano HG53. (my groupset is Deore). However, this chain snapped as well...after about 30miles!
There could be 2 reasons for this, either my ancient rivet extractor is no longer pointy and is causing a weakness when putting the chain together or, I got the wrong chain?
On further inspection of my bike bits I noticed 'Mega 9' stamped on various components. I did a search for this and found hg72 and hg92 are recommended for mega 9 parts.
Help! Is the HG53 I got alright to use with the mega9 or do I need to get one of the others or an alternative?

The Shimano connecting pins are easy to screw up. Consider getting a 9 speed SRAM powerlink connector, and using that instead to join the chain once it's cut to size. You get the extra bonus of having the chain easily removable/reinstallable in the future too.
