Are high-tech, moisture-wicking, and über-expensive winter cycling jerseys really worth the hefty price tag, or are we just paying for fancy marketing and a fancy logo when a good old-fashioned merino wool jersey would serve us just as well for layering? I mean, whats the actual difference between a $200 jersey with windproof and breathable claims, and a $50 merino wool jersey thats been doing the job just fine for decades? Is it really about performance, or is it just about keeping up with the latest trends and looking pro? Dont get me wrong, I love a good piece of kit as much as the next person, but Im starting to think that maybe were just getting taken for a ride (pun intended) by the marketing machine. Whats the real difference here, and are we just drinking the Kool-Aid?
