Can someone explain to me why chain lubes with easy cleaning properties are a thing? Is the average cyclist really that lazy that they cant be bothered to properly clean their chain with a rag and some degreaser? I mean, I get it, some people are probably out there thinking, Oh, I dont want to get my hands dirty or I dont have time to clean my chain, but isnt that just part of being a cyclist?
Ive always used the traditional methods of cleaning my chain and never had a problem with it. So, whats the point of having a lube thats easy to clean off? Is it really worth the extra cost and potential compromise on performance? Ive heard some people say that these easy cleaning lubes are more environmentally friendly, but how much of a difference does it really make? Are we talking about a significant reduction in waste or is it just a marketing gimmick?
And what about the performance aspect? Do these easy cleaning lubes provide the same level of protection and durability as traditional lubes? Ive heard mixed reviews, with some people saying theyre great and others saying theyre a waste of time. Im not looking for anecdotal evidence or personal opinions, I want to know the facts. Are there any studies or tests that have been done to compare the performance of easy cleaning lubes to traditional lubes?
Im not trying to be a skeptic, I just genuinely dont understand the point of easy cleaning chain lubes. If someone can enlighten me and provide some actual data to back up their claims, Id appreciate it. But if its just a bunch of hype and marketing nonsense, then Id rather stick with what I know works.
