  1. I'm a newbie to cycling and to forums like this but my impresion seems to be that whenever people talk about Campagnolo, they mostly talk about the $$$ Record/Chorus.

How about stuf like the Centaur? Any comments/experiences?

Also, since Campy is made in Italy, it is cheaper to buy it in Switzerland or France?

    Thanks!

I replaced older Shimano 105 components with new Centaur parts this year. I think the quality and function have been terrific. The shifting has been flawlessly smooth and the brakes are great. I especially like the ergo levers. I can't think of a single thing I would improve--I can't feel the weight difference. The differences between Centaur and Chorus are small in most components and not meaningful for a recreational rider who needs to go fast but not to win races for a living. A close look at the lines would justify matching Centaur fairly against Ultegra. Check out reviews of the various lines at roadbikereview.com.

I find Centaur to be okay. Definitely better than 105. Put in close to 17000km's on my current set and its holding out fine, although i am thinking of upgrading the rear gearing to chorus. (after a number of falls, the smoothness is getting less).

If your looking to save money another option is to build up your bike part chorus (hubs&gears) part centaur (cranks, brakes and the rest).

  4. Campy parts are all great. Centaur and Veloce are excellent. They last much longer than others.

Problem is too many people overlook Centaur and Veloce and only think Campy makes Record. Truth is the lower priced group is excellent.
