I have a GT road bike with the triple triangle frame, 2 kid's bikes, and one "normal" framed bike. I am looking for a hitch mounted rack. I don't travel with the bikes all that much, mostly just the GT, so fancy is not a high priority. I am looking to keep my costs under $200.
I intended to purchase the Yakima Bighorn 4, but the triple triangle won't fit because of the triangle and the cables on the bottom of the crossbar. (This is the bike I'll transport most. The kid's bikes are a-whole-nother problem.) The Saris and Thule seem to hold the bikes in a similar fashion, so they are apparently out.
I have a van, so I'd like to avoid roof racks.
Any suggestions?
One possible solution is an Alpaca Carrier that a dealer recently showed me. I'd never heard of them. The posts fit through anywhere on the bike - frame, front/back wheel - and the bikes are then strapped to the posts. From what I've seen these are good for tandems and recumbants. Anyone have experience with Alpaca Carriers?
Your insight is appreciated.
