I stay within a pound or two of my best racing weight all season which includes plenty of hard training so more weight isn't necessary to support training. My weight does tend to go up by about five more pounds in the late fall and early winter but that has more to do with burning fewer calories during the short days with shorter rides and just not watching intake as carefully during the off season. I haven't had trouble burning those pounds back off by February or so as workouts increase in both intensity and duration and I'm paying closer attention to what and how much I eat as the season approaches.
YMMV,
