  1. I went for a ride in the Durham Dales at the weekend to recce a 1km square
for a wildlife survey. On my way back I met the usual weekend traffic in
and out of Blanchland---one of those places people drive to for a cup of
tea and a wander even though there's bugger all there. Two overtaking
incidents stood out. In one case an oncoming motorist overtook the three
oncoming cyclists by giving them loads of room. It would have been
exemplary if he hadn't have almost hit me in the process, he didn't seem
to register that I might need road space too. In the second incident a few
minutes later a driver waited patiently behind me for a minute or so until
it was safe to pass, straight section, no oncoming traffic at all. He then
passed so closely I could almost feel the car but what was worse the
passenger had her hand out the window holding a lit [censored] and I ended up
    with a lungful of smoke.

I was grunting up the easy side of Holme Moss on Sunday, three motorcyclists
were coming down. Some twunt decides to overtake me and of course give the
motorcycles plenty of room leaving me squeezed between his green Toyota and
a twenty foot drop off. Good job I kept enough in reserve to shout abuse at
him. Needless to say I didn't stop at the top, just carried on an enjoyed
the 46mph descent on an empty road.
