I've had this problem for years. Thought maybe I would post this question out, hoping to receive some kind of explanation. For some reason I wear out the inside top on my left shoe. Its because of constant rubbing from my right heel while I run. Could any one give an explanation for this...? Running form? Leg length discrepancy? How do I correct?
Could it be that you don't have your shoes laced tight enough? With that kind of motion of your heel, it sounds like the shoe isn't snug. Try skipping a few eyelets in the middle of the shoe and filling the top lace holes. Most shoes have extra holes at the top that are used to 'lock' your laces. Ask at a running store how to lace your shoes so that they are tight and stay tight.
Perhaps you should try a smaller shoe. Don't go too small, because you will start getting black toenails, but if too much room might also be the root of your problem.

It sounds like he's kicking hie left foot with his right as the foot moves forward. He could trim the excessive flair from the right shoe.
