  1. I always wash apples in very hot water before eating them.
    This is to wash off as much of the chemical cocktail that
    has been sprayed on them as possible. Sometimes I find
    apples can be really sticky and hot water on it's own does
    not clean them, in those circumstances I add a few drops of
    washing up liquid and then follow this with thorough
    rinsing. Does any one have any thoughts on the subject?

  2. That waxy stuff on apples is most likely shellac.
